Lexington security guide: how you live, CryWolf, leftover keypads, KU nights
The quote starts with house vs condo vs rental vs larger lot — not the look of the brick. Then we name the desk from your ZIP and ADT monitors 24/7.
Occupancy first. Architecture is not a product.
Lexington mixes single-family streets in Chevy Chase and Ashland Park, stacked units downtown and in the Distillery District, larger lots in Hamburg and Beaumont, and resales with a leftover keypad. That mix is a living fact, not the product. The product is a professionally installed, ADT-monitored home security system. On the call we ask house vs condo vs apartment, ZIP, leftover keypad yes/no, and cameras yes/no.
A Chevy Chase or Ashland Park house is doors, a rear slider, and often a garage walk-through. A downtown condo is indoor contacts the board will actually allow. A rental near UK adds extra keys — promotional offers are for homeowners. A Hamburg or Beaumont lot is a longer driveway and weaker Wi-Fi at the back fence. We will not copy one kit onto the other. Packages start at $53.99/mo*.
The kit after you name how you live
Single-family house
Chevy Chase, Ashland Park, Tates Creek. Front door, rear slider, garage walk-through first. Doorbell if packages sit on the porch. Skip the twelve-camera list on a modest lot.
Condo
Downtown, Gratz Park, stacked units near the Distillery District. Boards often kill hallway cameras. A panel and contacts inside the unit plus ADT 24/7 is still a complete system. Staffed desks help with boxes. They do not call ADT at 2 a.m.
Apartment / rental
Ask who can authorize the install. Indoor contacts still work. Outdoor video is often a no. Houses near UK add extra keys — say who can disarm the panel. Promotional offers are for homeowners.
Larger-lot house
Hamburg, Beaumont, Georgetown, Nicholasville. Decks, sliders, long driveways. Weak Wi-Fi at the back of the lot is normal — cellular backup by name. A different city desk is a permit conversation, not a reason to skip monitoring.
Resale with a leftover keypad
Hamburg, Beaumont, Masterson Station closes. Photograph the panel before you pull it. Reactivation is often faster than a rip-out. Builder leftover keypads are not ADT. Count the slider and the garage walk-through.
CryWolf is $15 a year. Georgetown deleted its user-permit.
Inside Lexington-Fayette, register with CryWolf. The annual user permit is $15. False alarms 1–3 are $0, then $25 / $60 / $125 / $200 / $250 / $300. Unregistered systems are $100 per false alarm. Georgetown deleted its user-permit in 2022 and still fines repeat false alarms. Nicholasville, Versailles, Richmond, Paris, and Winchester are not Lexington Police — confirm that office from the ZIP. We do not invent their fees.
A leftover keypad on a resale is worth a photograph before you pull it. Reactivation is often faster than a rip-out. Say whether a garage apartment or basement unit has its own key — that is a second door list, not a footnote.
What to have ready before you call
- ZIP and city — Georgetown is not Lexington Police, Nicholasville is not LFUCG
- House, condo, apartment/rental, or larger-lot — occupancy, not a style name
- Whether you own the home (promotional offers are for homeowners)
- A rough door and window count, including the garage
- Cameras yes or no, plus any HOA or board camera rules
- A photo of any leftover keypad
Call (859) 710-8600. You hear the monthly price, the $99 install, the 36-month agreement, and the permit office before anyone schedules a truck.
