Lexington · LPD

LPD recorded 20 homicides in 2025. Porch boxes still walk off on a UK night.

Homicides fell to 20 in 2025 — the lowest in more than a decade, down from 44 in 2022, per Chief Lawrence Weathers and Lexington Police. That is progress. It is not a reason to leave the slider unlocked on a Tuesday in Chevy Chase.

What the 2025 Lexington Police numbers actually say

Lexington finished 2025 with 20 homicides, the lowest total in more than a decade and down from a 2022 peak of 44. Breaking-and-entering fell about 20.5 percent. Those are citywide Lexington Police figures. They mix downtown, Chevy Chase, Hamburg, Beaumont, and the far-north ZIPs. A quieter street is not 24/7 monitoring. A neighbor on the porch is not an ADT operator.

Chief Lawrence Weathers’s department treated the drop as the city’s direction. Direction matters. The house still sits empty during the workday, on a Rupp night, and when Keeneland is running on Versailles Road.

Porch packages on Chevy Chase, Hamburg, and Ashland Park stoops

Walkable strips are why people add a doorbell. Euclid through Chevy Chase, Sir Barton at Hamburg, and Ashland Park collect Amazon boxes on stoops while owners are at work, at UK HealthCare, or sitting at Rupp. A camera you check yourself is useful. It is not the same as ADT calling you when a door opens.

Lexington homeowners can trust a SafeStreets security system monitored by ADT. The system is for the hours no one is looking out the window — not a claim that your street is dangerous.

Empty houses, not scare copy

UK basketball nights empty Chevy Chase and downtown. Keeneland race weeks empty Versailles Road. Fayette County school drop-off empties Beaumont and Hamburg two-stories. Those are occupancy problems. Monitoring is the product.

What people actually order after a missing package or a leftover keypad

Door and window sensors, including the patio slider. A doorbell camera if packages sit out front. Outdoor cameras if the driveway holds a car overnight. Cellular backup so the panel still reaches ADT when KU drops. That is the Lexington order, not a twelve-camera quote unless you ask for one.

Source: Lexington Police Department 2025 figures cited by Chief Lawrence Weathers (20 homicides, lowest in more than a decade, down from 44 in 2022; breaking-and-entering down about 20.5 percent). Numbers change. We cite the year. We do not invent neighborhood crime rates.

Is Lexington “safe enough” to skip monitoring?

Homicides fell. Porch theft and empty houses did not take the year off. Monitoring is for the hours you commute, sit at Rupp, or leave for Keeneland — not a verdict on your ZIP.

Do quieter towns like Georgetown still order ADT?

Yes. Georgetown, Nicholasville, Versailles, and Beaumont orders are usually school-day empties, leftover builder keypads, and packages on the stoop. Same ADT watch as Chevy Chase. Independent cities are not Lexington Police — we name the desk from the ZIP.

Will Lexington Police come if the alarm trips?

ADT can request help based on the alert type. Inside Lexington-Fayette that is typically Lexington Police. Georgetown, Nicholasville, Versailles, Richmond, Paris, and Winchester dispatch differently. Confirm the desk from your ZIP. The $15 CryWolf permit is how the urban county keeps keyholder notes current — we name the office on the call.
